Bamboo craftsman, Kenichi Mori and bamboo curator Tetsuya Abe, from Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center, came to Sonoma to teach the community the art of bamboo basket making.
The participants learned the techniques for preparing, cutting and weaving (yatsume ami) the highest quality traditional Japanese bamboo baskets over two days.
Each participant made their own bamboo basket from start to finish.
The group visited the Presentation School and the Mission Value to teach the workshops in Sonoma.
They also visited the Vintage House in Sonoma.
At the end of their visit, Kenichi Mori and Tetsuya Abe spent a day at the Workshop Residence in San Francisco. Artists and designers from in and around San Francisco took part.
