We invited bamboo masters from Beppu, Japan to share their craft in Sonoma and San Francisco.
Bamboo craftsman, Kenichi Mori and bamboo curator Tetsuya Abe, from Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center, taught participants techniques used to prepare, cut and weave (yatsume ami) bamboo to make the highest quality traditional Japanese bamboo baskets.
Each participant made their own bamboo basket start to finish.
The group visited the Presentation School in Sonoma.
Dozens of students worked with the bamboo artists to try their hand at creating an intricate bamboo bell.
And they each had a beautiful keepsake to remember the special day.
At the end of their visit, Kenichi Mori and Tetsuya Abe spent a day at the Workshop Residence in San Francisco.
Artists and designers from in and around San Francisco took part.
